Less textbook. More making. Our Creative Classes rethink subjects like songwriting, improvisation, composition, music theory, and production by putting creation at the center of learning. Instead of simply studying how music works, students discover it by writing, experimenting, improvising, producing, and making their own music. We believe creativity isn’t something you wait for until you know enough. It’s how you learn.

Artist Development

All Ages

Knowing how to play an instrument is only the beginning. Artist Development is for students with a musical foundation who are ready to discover what they want to say with it. Participants learn to produce in Logic Pro, explore new instruments and recording techniques, collaborate with one another, listen critically, produce records across genres, study and write lyrics and poetry, improvise, arrange, and craft their own performances.

Composition

All Ages

For students with a strong musical foundation and theory background who are ready to turn musical ideas into complete works. Our Composition program explores classical and contemporary composition, film scoring, orchestration, arranging, harmony, and musical form. Students learn not only how great music is constructed, but how to make those tools their own, developing an individual compositional voice and learning to write for everything from a single instrument to a full ensemble or cinematic score.

Theory & Note Reading

All Ages

Ever look at a page of music and wonder what any of it actually means? This class starts there. Designed for complete beginners, Theory & Note Reading breaks down the language behind music, from note names, rhythms, and intervals to scales, key signatures, the circle of fifths, and the building blocks that hold music together. But we don’t stop at knowing what these elements are. Students learn to hear them, play them, and understand how each one feels in music. Less memorizing symbols for a test, more connecting what you see on the page to what you hear, feel, and play. The goal is simple: make the page stop looking like a foreign language and start looking, sounding, and feeling like music.

Songwriting

Ages 14+

What makes a song stay with you? In Songwriting, we study the craft behind the songs we love, exploring how different artists use melody, harmony, lyrics, structure, rhythm, and storytelling to express an idea or emotion. Students analyze songs across genres, experiment with different writing techniques, and work through the challenges every songwriter faces, from finding the first idea to knowing when a song is finished. The goal isn’t to teach you one way to write. It’s to help you discover how you write.
